Summary

SUMMARY: Balance "Make crafting pipe weapons, blunderbuss, and blunderbuss ammo more accessible"

Purpose of change

This revives the PR that set out to make pipe guns a bit easier to access at a point in the game where they might be useful, and applies a similar degree of consistency updates to related weapons that would also likely work via a similar method. In addition it applies some changes to make the blunderbuss likewise more accessible at the point in gameplay where they'd be most useful, and reflects the weapon's characterization as a crude muzzleloading weapon, as a lower-tier counterpart to the flintlocks.

Describe the solution

  1. Updated .22 pipe rifle, pipe shotgun, 9mm pipe rifle, .223 pipe rifle, .38 pipe rifle, .40 pipe rifle, .44 pipe rifle, and .45 pipe rifle set to use fabrication as the primary skill and a smaller level of mechanics as the sub-skill, as per the initial PR, on the basis that they are simple slamfire pipe guns, along with change of sawing used to allow a multitool to be useful for making them. Difficulty of primary skill standardized to 2.
  2. Pipe double shotgun, pipe combination gun, .30-06 pipe rifle, 40mm pipe launcher, triple 40mm pipe launcher, and 40mm pipe gunmod likewise set to use fabrication and mechanics, but without changes to their required qualities and with no change to their primary difficulty, on the basis that these are basic pipe weapons but still entail a greater degree of engineering that more conventional slamfire zipguns.
  3. A similar standardized change of difficulty applied to the blunderbuss recipe, alongside the inclusion of a pilot light to make the recipe a bit more distinct and represent it being a muzzleloading weapon.
  4. Added match head powder as an option for blunderbuss rounds. Reason being it functions as a sensitive propellant that might be a bit too low-power for most cartridges with a limited case volume, but could be tolerable in a muzzleloader, plus this allows the blunderbuss to be more accessible at a point in the game when the player might not yet be able to access gunpowder via breaking down ammunition (by the time they have that, they likely can settle on a favored caliber).

Describe alternatives you've considered

  1. The .223 pipe rifle could be set to a difficulty in between the standard pipe rifles and the .30-06 one since those two are the only rifle-caliber pipe guns in the game.
  2. Making the blunderbuss use a different skill combination, like Fabrication 1 plus Survival 1 (or Fab 2 + Surv 1), to represent a different skillset used to jury-rig a makeshift muzzleloader compared to a slamfire gun.
  3. Making blunderbuss ammo require a greater amount of match head powder instead of making blackpowder requirement. Ideally an even multiple of 10 since each set of 20 matches makes 10 powder.
  4. Allowing match head powder for flintlock ammo since similar justifications could apply.
  5. Adding a double-barrel variant of the blunderbuss at a level or two higher fabrication, for increased options in "oh shit" scenarios.
  6. Simplifying pipe gun recipes further via permitting standard screwdriving quality instead of fine screwdriving.

Testing

Checked affected files for lint and syntax errors.

Simplifying pipe gun recipes further via permitting standard screwdriving quality instead of fine screwdriving.

Could be good. What exactly does require fine screwdriving in a pipe gun anyway?

Allowing match head powder for flintlock ammo since similar justifications could apply.

Flintlocks are high level, so we can assume they need a bit more precision.

My guess is possibly something being fitted with a machine screw, a type of bolt that typically uses a flat-head slot for the head. So something that would logically use regular screwdriving, yeah.
