Describe the Enhancement:

Using this config.rb fails:

client_name     = "jerry"
client_key      = "/home/jerry/Demo/chef-admin.pem"
chef_server_url = ""
ssl_verify_mode :verify_none

With the following error:

knife client list --config .chef/config.rb
ERROR: The object you are looking for could not be found

Eventually I deduced that the error was that I had used = to set the values when I should not have.

Describe the Need:

Modify parsing config.rb to do one or more of the following:

  • Allow using =
  • Warn user when = is detected
  • Modify error message to show the actual error

Current Alternative

Use the following config.rb:

client_name     "jerry"
client_key      "/home/jerry/Demo/chef-admin.pem"
chef_server_url ""
ssl_verify_mode :verify_none

Can We Help You Implement This?:

Would love to help out if you decide on the direction 😄
