Knife deps does not respect multiple cookbook directories set in the config file. Other knife commands (such as knife list cookbooks) are able to correctly search each of the directories listed in the config, but knife deps does not, even when explicitly specifying the configuration file.

Chef Version

Chef Development Kit Version: 2.6.1
chef-client version: 13.11.3

Platform Version

CentOS 7 (Linux 4.16.18)

Replication Case

Create/modify a chef repo to have cookbooks in subfolders of the cookbooks/ directory. Set the configuration appropriately to include the paths of these subfolders. Add some cookbooks to these folders and create a role that includes at least one of these cookbooks. Attempt to run knife deps roles/some_role.rb and note the errors. Notice that this happens regardless of the recursion setting.

The following is included in my config file (passed explicitly with the -c option):

cookbook_path [

Client Output

For this output, assume a directory structure of the following:

  + roles/
  | + some_role.rb
  + cookbooks/
       + type_a/
       | + cb_1/
       | + cb_2/
       + type_b/
          + cb_3/
$ knife deps roles/some_role.rb
ERROR: cookbooks/cb_1: No such file or directory
ERROR: cookbooks/cb_2: No such file or directory
ERROR: cookbooks/cb_3: No such file or directory
