Not sure if this is indeed related to using MariaDB instead of MySQL but when I try to use the mysql auth plugin the server won't start with error message:

The operating system reported '/usr/lib/cherokee/libplugin_mysql.so: undefined symbol: floor' while trying to load '/usr/lib/cherokee/libplugin_mysql.so'.

MariaDB version:
mysql Ver 15.1 Distrib 5.5.40-MariaDB, for debian-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 5.2

Cherokee built from latest Master source, reports version:
Cherokee Web Server 1.2.104

Hosting environment: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.13.0-45-generic x86_64)

Floor sounds more like a missing -lm (math library). I wonder if we use that in cherokee.

We don't. This sounds like some flags are required (now) at linking which we don't add. Could you try to:

./configure --with-mysql=mariadb_config

...or something like it?
