obit-parser

This repo contains code for the backend and GUI of an obituary parser that takes as input social media posts in Russian and outputs key attributes such as name, date and place of death, date and place of burial, military rank, etc.

The parser can be used for activists, journalists, and other interested parties to collect casualty information from OSINT data.

To launch the parser:

• download and unzip the source files,
• in Terminal, cd into the obit-parser folder,
• install necessary packages with pip install -r requirements.txt,
• run python Obit_Parser.py and start pasting obits.
