I tested a Sparkfun MP3 shield and it required me to install the SDfat library.
I ran the sample code from Sparkfun.
It compiled and ran fine on an Arduino Duemilanove using the Arduino IDE but would not compile with MPIDE.
Lots of errors.

Has anybody else tested this library with chipKIT?
Its apparently a common library for reading SD cards which this MP3 shield uses for loading MP3 files.

Is this SDfat library the standard SD library, or is it a third party library? If it's a third party library, I can try to fix it, but I won't be able to get to it for a while. If it's the standard library, it would be higher priority and I can look at it in the next few days.

According to Sparkfun I had to download and install this library which I assume is a third party.

The Arduino SD libraries should work on the Sparkfun shield, you might need to double check the SPI pin if there is an issue. There's good information here:
