New dynamic ads on www.spiegel.de cannot be blocked easily #1573
Script blocking won't work, because they made that part inline.
I'm not asking about a specific solution to "my" problem. Because this isn't just my problem. More and more major sites are using this technique, at least here in Germany focus.de and now also spiegel.de as well as bild.de are pretty much the top news sites, already using it (don't know if bild.de uses the same but they started active anti-ad measures in the most public way not long ago).
So these developments make adblock tools like this next to useless - at least for all the major websites, unless they find a different way to counter this.
@harshanvn was explaining that uBlock Origin supports blocking these inline scripts. There is currently a filter for spiegel.de included in default install.
I cannot find that filter...
There is currently a filter for spiegel.de included in default install.
Well, I have a default install and the ads do show up on spiegel.de.
What is the version number of the extension you are using?
The current version in the Chrome store, 1.3.3
You are on Chrome? Specific inline script blocking only works for Firefox currently.
How about Safari? I vaguely remember that inline script blocking doesn't work in Safari either. So is there a different way to block this stuff on spiegel.de and other sites in other browsers than Firefox? (For the other sites see the uBlock Origin filters.txt.)
Next step in the anti-adblock war!
www.spiegel.de has started delivering ads with new, random IDs that cannot be blocked by filtering.
Example for a huge banner:
a) Top of the page
and b) right side of the page
I'm blocking these ads using Tampermonkey scripts that blindly delete DIVs in those positions, but that would fail if they stopped adding such ads, in which case my script would delete an actual content DIV.
