Extra Markdown Commands

ℹ️ This plugin is officially deprecated, since I have made a much better plugin that includes most of this plugin's functionality: Smarter Markdown Hotkeys. For HTML tags, you can use the much more customizable Wrap with Shortcuts Plugin.

Obsidian plugin that adds various commands, e.g. for __bold__ or <cite>.

Commands added

Command Effect
Underscore Bold __foobar__
Underscore Italics _foobar_
HTML Comment <!-- foobar -->
<cite> Tags <cite>foobar</cite>
<aside> Tags <aside>foobar</aside>
<u> Tags (underline) <u>foobar</u>
Multicolor Highlight 11 _==foobar==_
Multicolor Highlight 2 __==foobar==__

💡 If you want to replace the default commands from Obsidian, remember to remove their hotkey binding before changing the hotkeys from this plugin. Example for Underscore Bold:

  1. Remove the hotkey cmd/ctrl + B2 for the default command Toggle Bold.
  2. Assign cmd/ctrl + B as the hotkey for the command Underscore Bold.

Installation

This plugin is available in Obsidian's Community Plugin Browser: SettingsCommunity PluginsBrowse → Search for "Extra Markdown Commands"

This plugin has been created by @pseudometa#9546 (Discord) aka @pseudo_meta (Twitter) aka Chris Grieser (rl). In my day job, I am a PhD student in sociology, studying the governance of the app economy. If you are interested in this subject, check out my academic homepage and get in touch.

Footnotes

  1. Multicolor Highlighting is a form of custom syntax used by some themes like Sanctum or Shimmering Focus.

  2. MacOS uses cmd, Windows and Linux use ctrl.
