This is the work I do for my degree in Information Technology at the University of Sydney. I open source all my work under the MIT license (see below).
The way marking is structured students don't need to compete with each other to get good marks. As marks are not scaled in the faculty of Engineering and IT our battle is against the lecturers, not each other. By open sourcing my work, I want to help everybody learn, an action which is oft forgotten in "education".
Warning: Now I don't want to sound like a hard ass, but if you are doing one of the same courses as me and decide to copy my work, that is not cool. I don't want to get done for plagiarism because 50 people I don't know blindly copied my work. Lets think about that situation for a moment. If it came down to it I can prove I originally wrote all the code with the entire Git history to back me up. Also, even though it may be open source, you'll be violating the license if you don't include the copyright notice below. That will make you liable to be sued, and if you make me fail a course I'm not going to be that happy. If you do include the notice, your lecturers will then see you just copy & pasted the code from me, and give you zero. No outcome is good for you. So, the moral of the story: let my work enhance your own, not dictate it.
