Hi,

Recently been finding that certain tweets cannot be opened.

It's not all tweets at the same time, just selected ones. Sometimes the problem clears if I reload or restart the browser but not always. Today it's one of my own tweets that I can't open.

Not sure what could be causing that, maybe the TweetDeck website got an update that broke it (or caused a buggy interaction with the app). I'll need a reliable way to reproduce the issue, haven't had it happen myself yet.

The other odd thing is I can open a link in the tweet but not the tweet itself.
If I think of a way to reproduce I'll let you know.
Otherwise keep up the good work, it's one of my favourite programs.

I'd just like to chime in that this is also happening to me. I haven't updated in a long while, so I'm guessing it's on Twitter's end? Here's a demo of 2 tweets, where one works 50% of the time, and the other doesn't work at all (every time my mouse moves over a tweet I click it): https://youtu.be/WMIGEgvCFR4

EDIT: Most tweets over 12 hours seem to work more reliably as well.

Interesting. I went through a bunch of tweets in my timeline and haven't seen this issue. Can either of you install the dev tools, and once you see a tweet where it's happening, right click -> Open dev tools, and see if any errors show up in the console when you try opening the tweet then.

If you don't have dev tools, download the app and make sure Install dev tools is ticked, it'll find and update the existing installation (or just select the same installation folder if yours is portable).

Sorry, this took a while, I ran out of space on my dedicated drive for downloads lol. Anyway, here is the error. Seems to be the same error despite what tweet I try to open (as long as it's one I can't open, no errors when I open a tweet w/o errors):

Console output of error.

So it looks like it happens on youtube videos which the website misinterprets as twitter videos, and crashes on missing metadata. Why that happens I don't know, do you notice anything weird when you try playing the video?

Now you've said about youtube, I just tried to click on 3 tweets with YT vids and none of them opened but I could play one video with no problems. Another had an error

Some youtube videos open correctly, others don't and give the "Your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available." like Teapothead said. It doesn't seem to have anything to do whether it's a youtu.be link or a youtube.com link. There are no errors in dev console when opening videos that won't play, but I get an extension error when opening links that work. Not sure that's important.

I think YT doesn't work when the video is only encoded into mp4 and their servers are taking forever to encode into vp9, so new videos sometimes won't work for a few hours depending on YT's mood. Extension error is some unrelated thing in dev tools.

To try to figure out what's going on - how often does the issue appear, and can you try using https://tweetdeck.twitter.com/ for long enough to figure out if the issue is happening on their website too?

Same problem is on Tweedeck. I can get the videos to play but I can't select the tweet.
