I'm getting this error when saving images now and the file saved is 0 bytes looking like this with no extension. Still using version 1.18 of TweetDuck and the error just appeared today, any ideas?

Looks like TweetDeck changed their image URLs, that's gonna break a lot of stuff out there. For a temporary workaround, go to Options, uncheck Best Image Quality, and fill in the extension manually (should always be .jpg).

Thx that worked. Will I still get the best image quality doing this way?

No, it will try to use the large quality, which may be the same best quality, but probably won't be if the original/best quality image is too big.

Also note that TweetDuck will get the same image quality even if you right-click and download the small thumbnail, so you don't have to click the image first to open the image dialog. Can't remember if the same applies to images in popup notifications though, you'd have to check.
