I would like to phase out the field-category terms: http://citationstyles.org/downloads/specification.html#categories . They were added as terms in 2008 after a suggestion by @simonster ( http://xbiblio-devel.2463403.n2.nabble.com/Adding-category-terms-to-locales-xml-td5927469.html ).

The only benefit I see of having translations of these field-categories is that they could be useful for localizing a style-browsing interface such as the Zotero Style Repository, but to my knowledge nobody has done this. Scrapping the terms would remove some cruft from the locale files and save translators some time.

@bdarcus, @simonster, as the original participants in the email thread that led to the introduction of the category terms in CSL, does either one of you have strong feelings about this one?

I don't.

I removed the terms from the locale files, and marked the category terms for future removal. Keeping the ticket open until CSL 1.1 (when we can safely remove terms).

Spec: citation-style-language/documentation@578b85c

Does that mean that there won't be any localization of style-browsing interface?

@gracile-fr, that interface is maintained by the Zotero team, and I don't know if they're planning any changes. But, for what it's worth, any existing translations will remain available in the CSL 1.0 locale files (which will get branched off).

Yeah, I don't see why we should maintain these.
