Citations will be numbered in the order in which they appear in the article (citation-sequence reference system); ASM will no longer use the citation-name system with an alphabetized reference list. Also beginning with January 2013 issues, entries in References will include all authors' names; “et al.” will not be used in author lines. I'm wondering if we just should go ahead and make the change. Another user asked about this ( ), and the production editor of AEM hasn't responded to my email with request for clarification as to when this change goes into effect in over a week.

Agreed, and in fact, we had a couple of requests already. I have added a specific style to the current beta for our users, so we currently have 2 versions. I would say the main issue could potentially be with the dependents. Then on the other hand, we'll see if more users complain about those when we make the switch.

How about Nov 1st, as the switch: most papers submitted after this date are likely to target a publication in 2013. We can leave an extra ASM style that corresponds to pre-2012, so that for those users still trying to publish before the end of the year, they have a relatively easy way out.
