The Open and Smart Advisory Committee named four working groups in 2018 that each focus on key aspects of maturing the City's use of technology.

Working groups


Purpose: Clarify and inform policy, guidance, and governance used in technology projects (link to working group draft scope)

Lead: Elaine Nicholson, Law Department

Open and smart cities projects

Purpose: Increase awareness of Austin’s smart city efforts (link to working group draft scope)

Lead: Stephen Elkins, Chief Information Officer

Emerging technologies

Purpose: Inform City staff on the benefits, risks, and challenges of emerging technologies and their business models (link to working group draft scope)

Lead: Kerry O’Connor, Chief Innovation Officer

Equitable outcomes

Purpose: Consider equity and inclusion when exploring open and smart initiatives (link to working group draft scope)

Lead: John Speirs, Telecommunications and Regulatory Affairs
