Definitely not abandoned, but it's a relatively simple piece of software and about 15 years old so it's pretty stable at this point. At least v2. Further development is less because it's needed and moreso "just because," so I think it's safe to confidently use it.
It's only "slow" because there's only really one individual doing the actual development work (me). If others actively provided PRs... that could easily change.
But this is just how open source goes. Sometimes there's flurry of activity and sometimes there isn't. My day job has been rather busy as of late and I haven't had much time to actively focus on this like I've been wanting (this project doesn't pay the bills). Couple that with real life... you get the picture.
Either of the above links should be fine, 300b7 (a.k.a. 2.3.7, formerly 3.0.0-beta7) will have a couple more features.
That being said, they both will have some issues depending on what you're trying to do on newer systems. This is mainly in part due to Apple deprecating some of its APIs over the years. You'll have greater compatibility with older OS.
