Backspace on emoji produces question mark character #6544

Tested on https://codemirror.net/ Chrome 87.0.4280.88, Windows 10 1909.

In the following gif, I add an emoji, press backspace, then press backspace again.

After the first backspace, observe the "�" character show up.
After the second backspace, observe that the character before the "�" is also removed.
