I am very happy to support this initiative, but let's add a code of conduct that emphasizes inclusion and diversity following the best practices of digital humanities and open science, e.g. https://community-covenant.net or https://github.com/carpentries/handbook/blob/master/topic_folders/policies/code-of-conduct.md

@seanpue Thanks for bringing this up. I'll add a code of conduct to the website to underscore the fact that we think that diversity and inclusion should be guiding values in setting up this community.

@melvinwevers I am not sure this is such a pressing matter, but please consider that it might not be a straightforward choice, as even the two guidelines which were mentioned differ. It could be an item for future discussion and voting, perhaps.

@Giovanni1085 you are absolutely right. And I think it's best to finalize details through future discussion and voting. We are still in the formational phase and deciding on a CoC and a reporting method is not a simple task. Therefore, we are dedicated to putting this on the agenda when we first discuss the setup of the workshop with a program committee.

I have created a new issue #3 for discussions related to the Code of Conduct.

While it is correct that the "Code of Conduct" is a much more complex topic (especially when including the necessary reporting functionality), maybe we could already include a much simpler short "Statement of Inclusivity"? I see that you already tried with "for all people, regardless of background and identity", but I think we can do a little more. For instance: "The Computational Humanities Research community is committed to the inclusion and recognition of all people regardless of race, age, culture, ability, ethnicity or nationality, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, marital status, religious affiliation, and socioeconomic status." Adapted from here: https://aoir.org/diversity-and-inclusivity/
