from the community about our features and we think it's time to break some default
behaviors, clean the codebase and add space for new developments.

In version 1.23 we have introduced an environment variable that will mimic the behavior

This is not to mimic behavior, we should be clear. Conan 2.0 will contain very different behavior, that we will not be able to integrate in Conan 1.X codebase. Something like:

"this is to try to minimize the changes in recipes necessary for the future, as well as some configuration and behavior. This does not resemble the full behavior that Conan 2.0 will bring"

Not exactly this, but something in the line.

I think I would do the following changes:

  • Rename the section to Road to Conan 2.0 (v1, v2, we have used them a lot for revisions)
  • Move most of these contents to a dedicated page in the reference for the CONAN_V2_MODE environment variable
  • Summarize the purpose of this new section: "In the future, this will contain relevant information and changes regarding Conan 2.0". Include a link to Github milestones (all the milestones, not only 2.0, as a way to track evolution.
  • Leave a short description of CONAN_V2_MODE variable in this section, summarizing its purpose, intended audience, caution about experimental, etc. Make clear this is not a feature yet, just to help detecting things that are already almost deprecated in Conan 1.X
