Issue Description

Trying to share a volume located at a sub-directory of /tmp/ fails with an error:
Error: statfs /tmp/

: no such file or directory

Hello all,

I know I already assigned myself to this issue, but I wanted to briefly introduce myself. I'm a computer science student at the University of Texas at Austin, and I'm hoping to work on this issue as part of a final project for a Virtualization course.

Could someone confirm whether this issue is still valid and within scope? Also, if there’s a particular part of the codebase that would be a good starting point. Since /tmp is a symlink for /private/tmp, I'd reckon that something might be going wrong there.

My project timeline runs for the next few weeks, so I'll be actively working on this during that period. I've already been able to reproduce the issue on my MacBook with the steps provided, so I'm hoping to find a lead soon.
