It would be much easier to deal with this if globals could just be marked with an attribute to put them in a special section. At the moment, they have to be shoved into a union with a PAGE_SIZE member and PAGE_SIZE alignment to manually use mprotect after initialization.

A different approach was taken upstream, so there's little reason to work on this now.
