This has been worked around. The heap corruption is still there, but it has been reported to the contact email given by Microsoft (with no response).

It runs fine with
malloc_abortset to 0 (theaoption) and with heap canaries disabled. There are two errors triggered: there's a small heap overflow, and then an invalid pointer is freed. Each only issue occurs once during start-up.
