# Vivado Vivado is the **e**lectronic **d**esign **a**utomation (EDA) tool that is used to develop and program digital designs for AMD FPGAs. To run Vivado on the Linux server, you must first source the settings file. This command will set the library, `PATH`, and other environment variables needed to run Vivado. ```bash source /tools/Xilinx/2025.2/Vivado/settings64.sh ``` Once Vivado has been sourced, you can run Vivado with ```bash vivado ``` If you have X-forwarding enabled and X11 server running, Vivado should pop up in a Window. If you are encountering problems or lag, refer to the [Linux Server Tutorial](Linux-Server-Tutorial.md#x-fowarding) ## Tips While Vivado does have a text editor for VHDL and Verilog, it's terrible. I highly recommend getting using [VS Code](./Linux-Server-Tutorial.md#setting-up-ssh-on-vs-code) and installing a Verilog extension for writing the actual code. If you don't want to run `source /tools/Xilinx/2025.2/Vivado/settings64.sh` each time you open a new remote session, you can include the line at the bottom of `~/.bashrc` ## Related Tutorials ### Digital Design 1.
