$ newt <directory> <newDir> ....

should read the content of <directory> as though it were an expanded tarball, but without inplace editing.

newt-0.0.0.6 and later support reading of directory templates (--list works), but newt still doesn't support writing the results.

--inplace doesn't work yet, but that has been moved to a new issue (#13)
