ffi runtime dependency

I just wanted to ask what is the purpose of the ffi runtime dependency - I don't see it used anywhere in the code.

childprocess depends on ffi, and ffi was broken at some point - ffi/ffi#176 so we had to pin it to a working version.

It should be removed now that the latest ffi is working.
