Auto convert to citep if author places brackets

Sometimes authors will manually enclose a citation in plain text brackets ( ) rather then converting the citation note to a group. Could the editor automatically convert to a group if the author typed ( ) around the citation? A little like when an author types backticks to get inline code?

I think also adding an optional prefix: (e.g.

Right now these are text citations and so don't have brackets properly.
