Actually, we would not be surprised if it compiles even with R 3.0.x. Glad that you got it going. As for relaxing the requirement, I'm not sure we want to do that for several reasons.
Perhaps, a note would satisfy? That users have been able to build from source and perform all tests? |

As for relaxing the requirement, I'm not sure we want to do that for
several reasons.
1. We don't want to run our full suite of tests (including the manual
ones) on too many older versions (even dockerized or travis'd)
2. Knowledgeable users can build from source if needed.
Perhaps, a note would satisfy? That user have been able to build from
source and perform all tests?

I'm able to build from source and run with R 3.2 if i modify the DESCRIPTION file
