I got a message today from user "WildNorthlands" who is subscribed to thread 938. But this is a Camcycle thread and he is not a member. How come?

Has the thread ownership been changed? If so how come he is still subscribed to it, and still getting email notifications? So he sees all the material but isn't allowed to access it on the website!

There's something badly wrong here, but I'm not sure whether its how he came to be on it in the first place, or whether it is a side effect of changing thread ownership.

Either way there is a huge hole in the privacy somewhere.

The person who started the thread made it public. I subsequently set it to be private to stop further subscriptions.

There are two existing issues here that resolve this:

#241 "Prevent users setting privacy in group context if not on Committee" to deal with the wrong setting being created in the first place; and

#51 State model issues, meaning that a post- change to permissions doesn't retrospectively change subscriptions. See #51 (comment) and #51 (comment)

This can now be closed - if the privacy of the thread changes, the people who can no longer view the thread are unsubscribed.
