numpy __init__.pxd changes dtype.type? #2022

Over in numpy I asked about a weird looking issue caused by using cython's default numpy pxd files instead of pandas' custom one: numpy/numpy#10063 (comment)

The eventual explanation:

Unfortunately, that version overrides the meaning of dtype.type to return the type number, rather than the type object like happens in regular Python (and in Cython if you don't override it at the cdef level, via Cython's regular handling for Python objects)

If this is an intentional design choice, then rock on. If not, just wanted to let you know there's a compat improvement available.
