It would be really cool to have new node types for use in influence diagrams. I am just not sure where in the code to add this (new class? ...)

yes and yes; can you point us to examples on the web or etc?

A concrete description is in Brian's thesis http://www.cs.uic.edu/pub/Ziebart/Publications/thesis-bziebart.pdf on page 22 showing MDPs. Here is a simple illustration though

So basically, new nodes for value/utility (diamonds) and decisions (boxes)

I imagine this as a re-implementation of node type as an alias to a set of kwargs that describe unobserved, observed, fixed, etc, and allow the inclusion of new types.
