This update names of B, BI, L, LI, M, MI, R, RI to match what was previously delivered as 0.831.

  • M and MI are own family instead of being bold of Light (see Bug #1512111)
  • name UniqueID string is formatted as "{family} {style} Version {version}"
  • name Version string is formatted as "Version {version}"

@madig We moved the Ubuntu fonts’ sources to UFO with the aim of generating fonts as close as possible to the 0.83 release. Any changes that were done after (0.831 or later) are awaiting approval from Canonical. /cc @sladen

Are Postscript outlines in the works? Quadratic curves are harder to deal with and have poorer tool support...

Postscript outlines are in the background layer. TrueType outlines were generated a long time ago in FontLab and have been hinted with TT instructions. The new toolchain does not generate identical TrueType outlines which would make the hinting incompatible and unusable.

(Not sure if this is a Glyphs bug, but the background layer shows up empty?! That's why I didn't see it. The actual data is inside the UFO though. I contacted @sladen regarding progress on this but only briefly talked to him.)

It might be that Glyphs doesn't support UFO3 layers yet. You should be able to see them in TruFont.

Quadratic curves are harder to deal with

I'm not sure this is true; quadratics can be the same to deal with if you have 2 explicit off-curve points between each pair of explicit on-curve points (with one implicit on-curve between the former)

and have poorer tool support...

Could you be more specific? I know glyphsapp has not supported quads in its UI properly yet, but if you use the 2.5 beta line and open a quad UFO then you will see and be able to edit the quad outlines, so I guess full support is coming :)

@madig, can you file the exact script/extension/glitch bug as a new bug somewhere to make it easier for @davelab6 et al to follow-up.
