Hi!

I'm Declan. I build things. Mostly software right now. Sometimes both. I enjoy creating.

If you want the broader context, writing, and visuals behind a lot of this work: portfolio · writing · LinkedIn

Currently building

Work I'm actively thinking about and pushing into the world right now.

  • AI Engineering: what I'm learning building AI-products in an AI-native way so you can too
  • Construction Procurement Agent: forward-deployed with mid-sized construction firm to automate procurement, submittals, and other document-heavy workflows where time can be saved and money can be found
  • Ontology-Xtract: interviews a SMB using generative, just-in-time UI/reasoning/questions to identify how AI can solve the biggest pains today. the productized version of forward-deploying based off my learnings.

Products that added to the GDP

A few things I've actually finished for customers.

  • Surgent: objective-only running analytics for serious-hobbyists to be motivated by real, hidden progress instead of composite scores.
  • Race Time Calculator: an iOS app that predicts race performance from Apple Health running data (the first of it's kind back in the day)
  • ChiTrack: the most-intuitive way to track a Chicago commute (because I'm stubborn and thought the popular app sucked)

More Projects

Older builds. Random builds. Fun builds. I have a good time laughing at old stuff and expect today's work to be equally charming in equal time.

  • Magic Record Player: listen to your memories (photos go on device -> corresponding song/playlist plays on speakers). Raspberry Pi + NFC scanner + Spotify API. feels like magic.
  • Strava Personality Test: what do your strava posts say about you? (repo)
  • Divvy Live: which divvy bike rack in chicago needs another bike? business case included (repo)
  • Interactive Personalized Digital Letter: a heartfelt digital gift when HR wouldn't let me send the physical version as a thank you to company friends + leadership
  • Sunlit Sips Chicago: find the Chicago patios and cafes that are in the sun right now (rate limited to lincoln park)
  • xxcli: X but intentional + actionable ideas based off your current project (github + obsidian) work
  • psPRD Preview: the proposed missing piece in my firm's internal AI stack - a context-aware (preojct, company, PM thinking) product management assistant (repo)
  • ScreenCam Overlay Recorder: a lightweight macOS screen recorder with microphone audio and a floating camera preview for quick walkthroughs (ended up buying one)
  • Minimal Site Blocker: a website blocker that i use to block sites on chrome (repo)
  • LED Control: hacked a locked-down consumer LED display into a local-first programmable device so it can say hi to people in the background of video calls (and for my agent to write messages, or display train times in the morning)
  • Home Control: custom CLI so my agent can control my home/environment (clicking through all those apps stunk)
  • Terminal Copy Paste: for when you keep copying from the terminal
  • Local Jarvis: GPT-OSS came out and I was excited to have a local jarvis (sad, too slow/dumb) (repo)
  • Meet or Not: the worst meeting that never was (my first product with AI :)) (repo)
  • Validate Idea: a product-led langing page to validate your idea by analyzing signups using methods i learned from lenny's podcast (spent too much time on a nothing-burger, but scar tissue is good)
  • Grade Final Boss: fun grade calculator i wish i had during finals (not painful enough, and also too much, so again, more tissue)
