mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/core/sdk:2.2 gone

Dear Group.

I know, dotnet 2.2 is really old, I know, it is end of life, I know, we shouldnt use it anymore.

But we have some old projects that arent ported alredy (because there are tons of breaking changes), I would love to have an solution, I can use mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/core/sdk:2.2 some weeks longer.

Is there an "old images repository", I can use?

Hi 👋

We migrated to this repository from microsoft/vscode-dev-containers last year. Hence, .NET 2.2 was never released from this repository.

Looking at microsoft/vscode-dev-containers/containers/dotnet & https://mcr.microsoft.com/v2/vscode/devcontainers/dotnet/tags/list, doesn't seem like that version was ever released from that repository.

However, you would be still able to install an older version with the dotnet Feature, example 👇

Thank you so much, this looks like a way it could work. In my case I need a jenkinsfile for compiling and deploying the service. Can I use your solution also if I use jenkins?

To be more specific:

I currently have a Jenkins pipeline running with

        agent { 
			docker {
				image 'mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/core/sdk:2.2'
				reuseNode true
			}
		}

fetches the compiler image - there it looks like that would (still) work.

In the Dockerfile I have at the beginning

FROM mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/core/aspnet:2.2
EXPOSE 80
EXPOSE 443

and that fails in the meantime. Can I cover both with your idea?

For the alternative mentioned in #542 (comment), you'd need to add a devcontainer.json file. I am not aware if that's supported by Jenkins pipeline, however, you could use Docker + devcontainer.json

Another option, you can build your own docker image with the devcontainer.json mentioned in #542 (comment) and directly use that image instead of mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/core/sdk:2.2.
