Cannot do mentions when posting from mobile, nothing is triggered after typing '@name'. This is not a jQuery 1.10 regression since iliketoast.net has not updated that far, a few commits before that.

Has this always been missing (=feature) or is this regressions at some point?

I know this is a duplicate and @movilla answered that it is working on several platforms but I cannot find the other thread :s

@transmutated waiting for the autocomplete, you can mention by entering the syntax manually: @{fla@diaspora-fr.org} would mention me for example ;)

@Flaburgan Yea, I do that if i know their @ mention name. But I'm lazy and would rather through some $$$ at the problem :D

The easier way is probably just switching to the responsive (desktop) interface which already works pretty well on phones and where mentions works like on desktop.

@SuperTux88 How do you do that? I don't see an option to "switch to desktop/responsive" anywhere and it isn't under the menu either. So I guess that would still be a bug if it isn't obvious to the user, right?

You have the menu-button with the 3 lines at the top-right, click that and then click "toggle mobile" (it's the second last entry, before logout).

@SuperTux88 Yea, I see that now. It's weird it doesn't say toggle desktop when you are on the mobile site. While that certainly does help, it's not the best use of screen real estate. Where the avatars are, that whole portion of the screen is under utilized. But yea, this works in a pinch. Just not as user friendly as it could be.

I'm looking at this feature in light of the discussion we had on Discourse which I started about "Mobile UI Development Best Practices for 2018" where I noticed that many of the missing mobile features are an artifact of the missing Backbone system. Simply repurposing the desktop site code for this therefore won't be feasible. This would require a very different implementation. There are still hooks for the autoSuggest stuff in the conversations/new.mobile.haml. Should we maybe try to get that path working for this?

Yeah, if this is still not implemented in the mobile version, it's because code used in desktop is based on libs not available on mobile. We can't wait for the whole new responsive version to come though, as it will take years. So if you find a way to implement this with a minimalist lib, it would be awesome.

There already is an autocomplete to select recipients in the conversation view (MP), I guess the same could be used here.

@Flaburgan I've played around with that control today. Unfortunately it's really designed for the types of control we are using it on. Among other problems it seems that it's the entire value of the text field not something after a control character within a larger block of text. I did find this jQuery control if we want to pursue this though:
