I tried to build according to https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/ticket/9711#comment:13 but am still getting the same error as in cross_mac_vm_full.tar.bz2 in the same bug ticket

I am getting the same problem in an Ubuntu VM I just setup (12.04.3 LTS), investigating ..

That issue is fixed for me with fixing the bashisms, thus closing...

Pin GCC to 4.5.3 and binutils to 2.22, the last versions working. There
are multiple bugs affecting bfin configuration; while [3] is fixed on
trunk in GCC (but not backported to gcc-5-release branch yet), [1] and
[2] do not have fixes yet.
