Political correctness has in recent years become a important part of the tech industry, and specially for the Django project as #2692 and #2694 have proven. Because other projects are now also considering to follow Django's example, I believe it is important for Django to be pro-active in this area.

Due the above stated reasons, I hereby propose changing the primary/replica terminology to primary/secondary. "replica" will most likely be a highly insulting and derogatory term used to describe human clones and human-like companion AIs in the near future.

By using primary/secondary instead of primary/replica, the Django project would be further proving that political correctness, and pro-active political correctness is an important topic that is taken seriously.

How come this is simply closed without discussion? Wasn't the switch to primary/replica terminology to avoid insult towards people in the distant past? Surely avoiding insult towards people of the near future is equally important?

I plus +1 this, because I fully believe and fully support preservation and cloning. My future clone will be offended by the use of the world "replica", because by that time the word "replica" will be used to referrer to inferior and mass produced copies of human DNA. He will not be a replica of me, but an exact duplicate. The words "primary" and "secondary" are considered to be placement and or mathematical terms and are not soon to be considered derogatory. However you may want to revisit this ticket in the year 2500 to re-evaluate societies definition of the words primary and secondary.

With advancing technology I believe that clones are a possibility and did anyone ever think about the right of future android servants and that they could have been a "replica" and this may offend them. I agree with randjudso that this is an important issue and should be addressed. I support this change.

Organic/mechanical hybrids are the future.
Human cloning and transgenics have come along way and the lines between science fiction and reality are getting thinner by the day. Since such organisms will be cloned from human DNA with the help of transgenics rather than breed or constructed in factories this one too will show some form of sentience.
The process will resemble some form of replication but as all carbon based life forms cloning only defines the physical characteristics and cannot for any reason pre-define or set the consciousness or mental state of the hybrid.
Thus the term replica is and will be even more offensive to a group much larger than the current human population in the very near future.
