This is more of a RFC pull request as there is probably a more elegant
way to go about this. For example if someone adds the from: tag
additional completions could be offered based on what users are seen
in the current search stream.

mu4e-headers.el: add ido-completing-read to narrow func
This adds a simple set of search completions when requesting narrowing
searches. This isn't particularly elegant though probably should be
more customisable.

Ah, interesting idea. I'll think about how to integrate something like this, cheers.

@djcb I note there are other pull requests for adding hook functions so external completion engines can be plugged in at certain points. It depends on what dependencies you want mu4e to have on external packages. I assume at the moment you just use core emacs?

djcb commented Sep 23, 2013

Yeah, I try to avoid thing that make setup harder; but hopefully we can make it possible to use other engines as well, if users have those installed.

What about adding an over-writable function/hook and then provide a couple of examples for popular plugins (like ido) in contrib? The default function should still use only emacs functionality.

I would love something like this. I frequently try to narrow to messages from a particular mailing list but fail to type the whole list name correctly.
