Textbelt

Build Status Gem Version

A ruby interface for sending texts free of charge through TextBelt.

Installation

Add this line to your application's Gemfile:

gem 'textbelt'

And then execute:

$ bundle

Or install it yourself as:

$ gem install textbelt

Usage

The main API is TextBelt.text. Sending messages should be as simple as passing a number & message, then watching it go!

TextBelt.text('01234567', 'Hello, World!') #=> Your favorite cell phone number gets a text message

If there are any errors that happen server side, we raise then as exceptions locally, see the documentation for text for a look at the different errors that might be raised.

require 'textbelt'

def send_cats(number)
  TextBelt.text(number, 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tntOCGkgt98')
rescue TextBelt::Errors::PhoneQuotaExceededError => e
  puts 'too many cats!!!!'
rescue TextBelt::Errors::BlackListedNumberError => e
  puts 'can not send any more cats to that number :('
end

See the full documentation here.

Development

After checking out the repo, run bin/setup to install dependencies. You can also run bin/console for an interactive prompt that will allow you to experiment.

To install this gem onto your local machine, run bundle exec rake install. To release a new version, update the version number in version.rb, and then run bundle exec rake release, which will create a git tag for the version, push git commits and tags, and push the .gem file to rubygems.org.
