-# Lazy developer
eBay has suffered from the blight of auction sniping for many years, a tactic used by shrewd developers and clued up users to snatch their desired item of choice right at the last second, leaving little or no time at all for the honest bidders to place counter offers. This, combined with the ludicrous 4-5 clicks it requires for a user to place a bid on the website has meant the machines will always win the race to the finish.
Today I experienced such crushing ordeal. As the countdown clock descended to zero I watched my auction in anticipation of winning, especially as I had been the highest bidder for some time. With 5 seconds left on the timer, a series of counter bids came in from one particular user, blasting through the highest bid ceiling that was set and the auction ended, leaving me with nothing.
