+

“Think for yourself and question authority.”
—Timothy Leary

+
+
This is a quote that I can really relate to personally and I have been using it a lot over the years in my signature on discussion boards around the internet.

+
+
Timothy Leary was a writer and psychologist, but he was known primarily for his interest in the psychedelic drug LSD. If you know anything about psychedelic drugs, it is likely that you also know about the phrase “Turn on, tune in, drop out” which was coined by Leary.

+
+
Too many people these days are accepting too much around them without questioning anything. That's what I believe this quote is about. We are letting the government, the media and most of all the society in general do all the thinking for us.

+
+
Let me give you an example. While you might not have noticed it, commercials strongly influence you. They might not have the power to persuade you into buying anything the corporations want you to but they definitely affect the choices you make.

+
+
But that's just a very small part of what I am talking about here. There are much more important symptoms of this widespread epidemic. Instead of taking actions based on our own conclusions, we walk in the footsteps of everyone else. We worry too much about what people think of us and we seek acceptance as we try to fit in among them.

+
+
We need to start questioning the unwritten rules that our society are starting to set up for us and avoid our own development into robots that are programmed to follow them. We need to start thinking more thoroughly and make up our own minds, draw our own conclusions.

+
+
I urge people to free themselves from the intellectual prison that a lot of people have built around themselves. Think about the actions you take. Analyze them no matter how small they are. Start questioning them and the choices you make. Ask yourself “Why?”, “Why should I do this?”.

+
+
Do you really have a good personal reason for all your choices and actions or are you just following the invisible and unwritten rules of society?

+
+
Beware, the answer to that question can be frightening.

+title: Behind Every Great Man
+wordpress_id: 28
+wordpress_url: http://mrnordstrom.mankindorganization.com/2007/03/17/behind-every-great-man/
+---
+
It continues to amaze me how even the smallest things can affect me and make me think deeply. This time it was a single sentence of a big article in Fortune Magazine. A sentence that I have read and heard many times before. It said that "behind every great CEO, there is a great woman" and I couldn't agree more with that statement.

+
+

+
+
My girlfriend and I are still together one and a half year after we became life partners, even as our relationship continues to be constantly unstable. I have been deceived and let down countless times but I continue to wear my golden ring proudly because I can see the potential in her. She is still young and I know that she can mature into the woman I need by my side.

+
+
The problems in our relationship has made me think a lot about what kind of woman I want to enjoy the rest of my life with and as a result I have a pretty clear picture of her in my mind. I have a vision about a brighter future.

+
+
Every great man needs a woman by their side that believes in his cause and always supports him on his journey in life. This is of great importance and I personally went through a great change in balance as my girlfriend and I built the foundation of our relationship. I felt calm and complete, as if I had someone there to catch me if I fell.

+
+
Making the choice of which woman you will spend the rest of you life with may very well be one of the most important decisions you will ever make. To make your relationship and marriage last forever, I urge you to think about what you want and need in a future life partner as this will give you a stronger foundation.

+
+
I personally need my girlfriend to support me and always be there for me. I plan to do great things in my life but I will also have to face many great challenges and when the time comes for those challenges to reveal themselves, I need someone there to believe in me.

+
+
Some time ago, I had a discussion about this with an online friend. She told me that a partner is there to help you get up once you have already fallen. She is a great person but I still don't understand her thoughts on this. As I see it, a partner is there to hinder you from falling in the first place.

+
+
I read a great quote on WorldOfInspiration.com that goes like this;
+"A friend is one who believes in you when you have ceased to believe in yourself."

+
+
This is so very true. Even great men are human and sometimes they will go through tough times when they struggle and begin to doubt themselves and their causes. That's when they are falling and need someone to catch them, believe in them and remind them about why they do what they do so that they can see the light at the end of the darkness.

+
+
Of course, this is a wonderful lifelong commitment that goes both ways. We need to be equally loving, understanding and supportive towards our partner. However, if we truly love the person we have chosen to share our life with, then this should be a purely blissful task that comes naturally in your relationship.

+
+
Sadly, it seems that a lot of people these days spend much more time thinking about themselves instead of concerning about other people. It's a shame to see that truly good people have become such a rare minority in Western society but hopefully this is a short-lived trend that will soon turn around.

+
+
Let me end this article with a simple quote by Winston Churchill that I truly and strongly believe in.

+
+
"We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give."

+title: Reflections of Return
+excerpt: ""

+---
+
It has been a few weeks now since I returned to smallville, Sweden, from big-town, LA. The transition may seem huge, and it is, but how does it really feel to come back home after being so far away for so long? To be honest with you, I'm not really sure yet.

+
+
Maybe it just haven't hit me yet, that I'm back, or maybe my mind thinks it was just a big dream. Going from a small town in Sweden to such a big and diverse place as Los Angeles is so indescribable that the mind can easily perceive it as unreal. But real it was and now it's over. I sometimes wonder when all the time passed me by because it sure doesn't feel like almost a year has passed.

+
+
Has this experience changed me as a person? It most definitely has, in countless of ways. Even though it may just be the tip of the iceberg, I have seen how different two places can be. We are all the same but still so different. This diversity is amazing and it teaches many valuable lessons.

+
+
The experience as a whole can be broken down into many smaller ones; I went through college as an international student. I moved away from home for the first time. I rented my first apartment. I struggled with a long distance relationship. This segmentation seems indefinite and the list can be made huge.

+
+
Some of these experiences were great and will be remembered happily for the rest of my life while others where horrible nightmares that will haunt me forever. Luckily, I will not remember my time in LA as unpleasant by any means. Instead, I will look back smiling and remember it as one of the greatest times of my life.

+
+
As I sit here wondering about what to write, I realize how hard it is. As I mentioned, this experience is inexplainable. So much has happened that has changed so many things in so many ways. I can't say much but I can say this; I'm glad that I went away and I'm glad to be back.

+
+
For those of you who are thinking about studying or moving abroad, think no further because the fact that you are considering it at all means that you should do it. Live life fully and leave your regrets behind.

+
+
That's all.
