I was playing with startx and xinit and somehow I've managed to mess things up a little because whenever I run sudo startxfce4 it no longer works. Here's what I'm getting:

chronos@localhost / $ sudo startxfce4

Yeah, looks like you borked the permissions on the .ICEauthority. Remove the file and try again.

similar issue after i updated the precise chroot using crouton from 02July to the latest 11July(to get the gnome, clock and df fixes).
"could not update ICEauthority file /home/user/.ICEauthority" and
able to login now after removing the file as advised above.
thanks!

Sorry, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to delete this file. I'm having the same issue, but I can't see the .ICEauthority file in the downloads folder. I tried using rm -rf and rm -r -f as well. Any help?

To clarify, you do:

chronos@localhost / $ sudo enter-chroot
amanowar@localhost:~$ rm .ICEauthority

bonus points if you combine it: sudo enter-chroot rm .ICEauthority
