I had trouble figuring out why my volume mounts used by docker-compose were empty. Thanks to the help I received on this issue I realized that this is because details about mounting volumes on Windows host machines aren't mentioned in the documentation. It was only after I was pointed to a file in a GitHub repository that I managed to get my volume mounts to work.

The manual mount actions and commands need to be referenced somewhere in the documentation for docker toolbox (https://github.com/docker/toolbox/tree/master/docs) and/or the docker machine documentation (https://github.com/docker/machine/tree/master/docs). With preferably a reference to this documentation when talking about volumes in the docker-compose documentation.
