One source directory for everything? (combine files and documents) #404

Hey guys,
my question is, why it isn't possible to have all my JS-Files in one folder? Now I must put my script.js in the documents-folder and all my libraries in the files-order. It would be nice, when I can put all my JS-Files in one folder.

This is something we've thought about a lot. You can put your vendor scripts inside the documents folder, but these issues then become possible:

  1. Extensions like jquery.min.js will by outputted to jquery.min
  2. The documents directory does not support binary files
  3. If a vendor file has a header that looks like docpad meta data, docpad will strip it out

It is definitely something I'm interested in, but I'm unsure how we can avoid those caveats at this time. Open to suggestions.

For one of the technical requirements of this goal (merging of file and document models) I've created #568
