I tested the DSP bootloading process mentioned here and determined that 1024 bytes are transferred during this process, at least with the other registers configured as they are in libogc.
I booted a simple payload which finished by setting a mailbox register to a specific value, and padded it with NOPs until that value no longer appeared in the mailbox.
