After a few years (!) I decided to resurrect my nvidia shield and dolphin-emu. I was previously on 5.0-12247. I updated to the latest version but my wii controller (RVL-003) with the Mayflash Dolphin Bar W010 is no longer recognised. I eventually traced it to issue 12980 (5.0-16940), with the last working version being 5.0-16937. I did try 5.0-16944, but this has not sorted out the issue. I have tried newer versions at random but none have helped either. Any suggestions are very welcome. Thank you.

@smoothquark Hi! Could you file this on the bug tracker? Comments on old pull requests are very easy for us to lose track of.
