How do I add a function in this template?

The template looks clean but how do I add a function? It has been giving "The modifier 'public' is not valid for this item:."

Because this is a local function, it cannot have the public modifier. If you removed it, the code will compile successfully. You can also move the function to a separate class in a separate file or in the same file.

The template uses top-level statements. You don't have to keep that approach. Another alternative is to add Program class and Main method that contains the Console.WriteLine, and make your ReadWriteString method a new method of the Program class.

I dont find this initutive. If it was initutive there would be no need for the aka.ms reference at that top... I personally prefer the old scaffolding to be present then the aka.ms reference/comment

It is also confusing prima facie as to when the public access modifer is allowed (Current context assumed? Also CS0106 states modifier not valid for this item; but in a later context it is ok, does CS0106 need to be more specific).
