The exception that is thrown when the operating system denies access because of an I/O error or a specific type of security error.

<remarks>
<format type="text/markdown">
## Remarks
An <xref:System.UnauthorizedAccessException> exception is typically thrown by a method that wraps a Windows API call. To find the reasons for the exception, examine the text of the exception object's <xref:System.Exception.Message%2A> property.
<xref:System.UnauthorizedAccessException> uses the `HRESULT` `COR_E_UNAUTHORIZEDACCESS`, which has the value 0x80070005.
## Examples
The following example illustrates the <xref:System.UnauthorizedAccessException> exception that is thrown when attempting to write to a read-only file.
[!code-csharp[System.UnauthorizedAccessException#1](~/samples/snippets/csharp/VS_Snippets_CLR_System/system.unauthorizedaccessexception/cs/withio.cs#1)]
[!code-vb[System.UnauthorizedAccessException#1](~/samples/snippets/visualbasic/VS_Snippets_CLR_System/system.unauthorizedaccessexception/vb/withio.vb#1)]

## Remarks
This constructor initializes the <xref:System.Exception.Message%2A> property of the new instance to a system-supplied message that describes the error, such as "Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation." This message takes into account the current system culture.
The following table shows the initial property values for an instance of <xref:System.MemberAccessException>.

## Remarks
An exception that is thrown as a direct result of a previous exception should include a reference to the previous exception in the <xref:System.Exception.InnerException%2A> property. The <xref:System.Exception.InnerException%2A> property returns the same value that is passed into the constructor, or a null reference (`Nothing` in Visual Basic) if the <xref:System.Exception.InnerException%2A> property does not supply the inner exception value to the constructor.
