This works OK for the markdown processing (the escaped pipe symbol is ignored), however the doxygen processing keeps the escape (backslash) in the generated output.

Solution is likely to add the support for escaped pipe symbols.
(Maybe limited to markdown sections if conflicts might arise).

Note:
Markdown also supports escaped colon (which maybe should be handled as well).
