Micropub is a W3C recommendation for posting to your web site. It started life in the IndieWeb community and is now supported in several platforms. Relevant to DreamWidth, it would be used to create, update, and delete posts on someone's blog using third-party clients, from Android and iOS to web clients.

The best use case for this is giving people more options to use DW with their choice of native or web apps, not just from within DW itself. The pieces that Micropub uses to allow the API to work also extend the capabilities of what someone can do with DW. Somewhat related to how ActivityPub would allow interrelated connections to other apps in the "fediverse", the pieces that make up Micropub allow for not just creating but syndicating and importing various activity from other social media silos. DW could effectively become a repository for online activity and give its users more ownership and control over their online content.
