A histogram that follows a histogram made with iaxs=TRUE does not seem to refresh the plot. Try this (from the examples in hist.formula()).

hist(~Sepal.Length,data=iris,xlab="Sepal Length (cm)",iaxs=FALSE)
hist(~Sepal.Length,data=iris,xlab="Sepal Length (cm)")

But then running this is OK ..

hist(~Sepal.Length,data=iris,xlab="Sepal Length (cm)")
