This has been tested (locally, but that's enough. With umlauts / non-ASCII characters).
I agree with keeping the deprecated format (JSON encoded string) either temporarily or until-whenever, because we have various separate test-debugging issues open in ldp-project. It complicates things if we have to coordinate PRs.
